The origins of this simple yet wonderfully aromatic cocktail aren't entirely clear, but it certainly appears in the Savoy Cocktail Book around 1930. A Gimlet is always a good way to try a gin and see how its flavours develop. This version uses fresh ingredients rather than the lime cordial found in many recipes.
