Tom Collins
Main ingredients

Tom Collins

Cocktail making hardly gets simpler than this. The Tom Collins also gives Old Tom gin a lovely platform to show its character.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml
    Gin
  • 30 ml
    Lemon juice
  • 15 ml
    Simple syrup
  • plenty
    Soda water
  • handful
    Ice cubes
  • to garnish
    Lemon wheel

Steps to make the drink

  1. Put the gin, syrup and lemon juice in the glass.
  2. Fill the glass with ice.
  3. Top up with soda water.
  4. Stir gently.
  5. Cheers!

No one seems entirely sure who invented the drink, but some sources name John Collins, who named it after himself in the 19th century. The use of Old Tom gin soon turned it into a Tom Collins, though. The rest, as they say, is history.
